How to Find Your Tire Dimensions
225 = Tire Width
The first number is the tire’s section width in millimeters. In this example, the tire is about 225 mm wide from sidewall to sidewall.
50 = Sidewall Ratio
The second number is the aspect ratio. It means the sidewall height is 50% of the tire width. A lower number usually means a shorter, sportier sidewall.
17 = Wheel Diameter
The last number is the wheel diameter in inches. A 225/50R17 tire fits a 17-inch wheel. It will not fit a 16-inch or 18-inch wheel.
Where to Look
Check the tire sidewall, the driver door jamb sticker, or the owner’s manual. The door jamb sticker is usually the best starting point because it shows the factory size.
Load & Speed Rating
After the size, you may see something like 94V. The number is the load rating, and the letter is the speed rating. These must be correct for the vehicle.
